Call for Nominations Image

The Call for ITSS Board of Governors Nominations:
The 2023 Nominations Round

Under the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS) Bylaws, 15 members are elected to serve on our Board of Governors (BoG) to manage the Society’s resources, represent the Society within IEEE, and arrange for technical publications, conferences, and other benefits to the members. The Board of Governors Members-at-Large (MaLs) serve for a three-year term, with five MaL positions elected each year.

To help manage the activities of the Society, ITSS BoG MaLs shall actively participate in the BoG meetings, which are generally scheduled either as a teleconference or in conjunction with our flagship conferences, the IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV) and the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference (ITSC). You can see our current BoG here: https://ieee-itss.org/about/bog/.

Nomination Information

Nominations, including self-nominations, shall be submitted online by going to https://ieee-itss.org/about/bog/nomination/ by 11:59 PM Anywhere on Earth Time (AoE) on Monday, 19 June 2023.

Please make sure that you submit the 2024-26 BoG Nomination Form in accordance with the instructions listed there and in this Call.

It is extremely important that your Nomination Form will address all the nomination selection criteria listed below.

As you consider potential nominees, please take into account that ITSS is committed to implementing the IEEE Policy on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. As such, the ITSS Nominations & Appointments Committee encourages nominations that complement and enhance the current composition of BoG with respect to technical, gender, and geographic diversity, to name a few.

In accordance with the Society’s Bylaws, the Nominations and Appointments Committee shall review the nominations received based on the nomination criteria listed below and will recommend a slate of at least eight (8) candidates to the current ITSS BoG for approval. The ITSS Membership will elect the five candidates via an election hosted by IEEE in August or September.

Please note, per IEEE rules, candidates not placed on the BoG slate by the Nominations & Appointments Committee can still be placed on the slate via candidate petition*.

Nomination Selection Criteria

The basic eligibility criterion is that nominees must be active members of both the IEEE and ITSS and in “good standing” (meaning they have been regularly paying their membership fees and haven’t had any ethical violations of the IEEE code of conduct).  Nominees must also hold the IEEE membership grade of “member” or higher (meaning that no student or graduate student membership level is accepted, per IEEE rules).

Additional selection criteria that the Nominations & Appointments Committee shall consider while evaluating nominees for BOG Membership Nomination include:

  • Extent of contributions to the profession and technical accomplishments (in relation to the nominee’s years in the field).
  • Extent of contributions to the ITSS and the IEEE.
  • Knowledge of and engagement with the ITSS operations (its technical committees, chapters, publications, conferences, etc).
  • Evidence of the candidate’s ability to act as a leader and work within a team setting.
  • Vision, values, and goals to be achieved during the mandate.
While making the final BoG candidate slate, the Nominations & Appointments Committee shall also implement the IEEE’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Nominees are expected to be committed to attending BOG meetings and timely completion of duties and responsibilities as the position requires. Note: ITSS aims to cover travel expenses for BoG Members to travel to BoG Meetings in accordance with IEEE Travel Policies.

Questions can be directed to Ljubo Vlacic, the ITSS Nominations & Appointments Committee Chair by emailing l.vlacic@griffith.edu.au.  Please state “ITSS BoG Nomination” in the subject line of your email.

Newly elected Governors in this round of nominations will start their term in January 2024 and will conclude their service in December 2026.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Ljubo Vlacic, Chair, Nominations & Appointments Committee
President-Elect, IEEE ITS Society
