Short Description

Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS) Logo

Officially formed on 17 August 2025 and recently formalized with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) under its elected 2026-2027 executive committee, the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS) Malaysia Chapter is dedicated to advancing local transportation technology. The chapter’s purpose is to bridge the gap between academic research and industry, nurture future ITS professionals through hands-on student development, and drive sustainable community impact initiatives. To achieve this, its technical focus is centered on Artificial Intelligence, electric vehicle (EV) technologies, Advanced Battery Management Systems (BMS), and smart traffic infrastructure.

Chapter Activities

Planned Activities

Technical and Academic Events

  • The chapter plans to host technical workshops focusing on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Advanced Battery Management Systems (BMS), electric vehicle technologies, and smart traffic systems.
  • They will participate in the IEEE ITSS Distinguished Lecturer (DL) Programme to bring in internationally recognized experts.
  • Local subject-matter experts will be invited to discuss autonomous vehicles, sustainable transportation, and emerging ITS standards through hybrid or online formats.

Student Development

  • Mentoring initiatives will include Final Year Project (FYP) mentoring, technical clinics, and student-focused short courses.
  • Hands-on training will be provided for modern ITS tools, simulation packages, and practical system design methodologies.
  • Collaborative ITS student competitions will be organized to encourage participation in IEEE and ITSS events.

Industry Collaboration

  • The chapter aims to establish partnerships for joint engineering and infrastructure projects, including industry-led technical talks, case studies, and proof-of-concept developments.
  • Student-industry pathways will be created to encourage industry participation in student activities, such as FYP co-supervision and industrial mentoring, with organizations like AMTEL identified as starting points.

Community and Social Impact

  • Targeted membership drives and networking sessions will be launched connecting academia, industry, and students, which will include research laboratory and technical site visits.
  • Social impact projects will include deploying solar-powered and EV battery-based solutions for community facilities.
  • A 5-day “EV Battery Modular Professional Training” program is proposed, featuring 2 days of theory and 3 days of practical training on safe battery dismantling, sorting, and 4R activities, jointly backed by AMTEL and MARii.
  • A tech outreach project at SK Convent (1) Bukit Nanas will introduce primary school girls to AI and IoT fundamentals using hands-on sessions with Raspberry Pi Pico boards.

2026 Activities (until May)
