Chapter Activities
In order to fulfil the IEEE ITS Society’s mission of advancing intelligent transportation systems worldwide, our Chapter’s leadership is dedicated to building a strong local network of global transportation innovators. We will realise this ambition by hosting a range of technical events and by promoting initiatives that can open doors to academic collaboration, encourage industrial engagement, facilitate knowledge exchange, and grow membership numbers in both the association and the ITS Society.
Since its establishment, the IEEE UK and Ireland ITSS Chapter has marked the following milestones, with more events planned:
- Co-hosted the IEEE ITSS-sponsored Technical Workshop “Intelligent Transportation Systems: Career Path to NetZero” in collaboration with the IEEE UK and Ireland WiE Affinity Group. The workshop took place on 30 September 2024 at the Queen Mary University of London and included a panel session and a research poster competition.
- Hosted the IEEE ITSS UK and Ireland Chapter Inaugural Event on 23 January 2025 at the University of Warwick, bringing together leading ITS academics and industry professionals. The event included speakers who introduced the ITS Society, the UK and Ireland Section, the WIE and YP Affinity Groups, as well as several technical talks delivered by leading academic and industry experts.
- Supported the formation of the University of Limerick Student Branch ITSS Chapter, which has so far organised three technical events (Amol Gulve, Prof Alexander Braun, Prof Valentina Donzella).
- Co-hosted the 14th Early Career Talks with the UK and Ireland Women in Engineering on 7 March 2025; an online event showcasing emerging ITS researchers and professionals.
- Co-hosted a hands-on workshop on generative AI (Techkies Series #1: LLAMA in ITS and the role of GAN), held on 15 April 2025 at the Queen Mary University of London.
- Won a bid to organise the ITSS-sponsored 2025 IEEE International Conference on Vehicle Electronics and Safety (ICVES) in Coventry.
