We are deeply saddened to share the news that William T. (Bill) Scherer passed away on 30 October 2024. Bill was a leader in the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITS Society), having served as Society President 2007-2008 and was engaged in intelligent transportation systems research throughout his professional career. He was a Professor and Chair of Systems and Information Engineering at the University of Virginia (UVA) and had served on the UVA faculty since 1986. Both attest to his many and significant contributions as a teacher, researcher, academic leader, and as one of the pillars of the ITS Society.
Bill will especially be remembered by all who knew him as a wonderful, inspiring, and energetic colleague, an outstanding human being, and a good friend to many in the ITS Society.
