ITSS Industry Meets Academia Webinar Series
Get Ready for Automation

Webinar IV of the ITSS Industry Meets Academia Webinar Series, titled “Get Ready for Automation” will feature a discussion with a pioneer in automated vehicles, Prof. Raj Rajkumar of Carnegie Mellon University, to understand perspective on deployment with vehicle-highway automation. This will be followed by a dialog between Prof. Rajkumar and private and public sector vehicle safety and automated communication leaders, Dr. Andreas Schaller of Bosch, and Dr. Raj Ponnaluri of the Florida DOT to draw out perspectives in the symbiotic necessity of the vehicle, communications networks from a variety of sectors.

 

Speaker Bios

Raj Rajkumar (Carnegie Mellon University) is a George Westinghouse Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He also has a courtesy appointment in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon. In addition, Prof. Rajkumar serves as the Director for: the Metro21: CMU’s Campus-Wide Initiative on Smart Cities, the USDOT Mobility21 National University Transportation Center, the USDOT T-SET National University Transportation Center, and the Real-Time and Multimedia Systems Lab. Prof. Rajkumar is also a Co-Director of the General Motors-Carnegie Mellon Connected and Autonomous Driving Collaborative Research Lab (CAD-CRL).

Andreas Schaller (Bosch GmbH) received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in electronic manufacturing at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nurnberg. He worked at Motorola Solutions in different positions and locations with responsibilities on applications and concepts development of innovative wireless (sensor) networks. He then joined Bosch in 2011, funded and lead the Robert Bosch Center of Competence for (wireless) Connectivity and is currently acting as the Head of V2X Technology Strategy in the at Robert Bosch Center of Mobility System Architecture (see https://www.linkedin.com/in/andreasschaller/)

Raj V. Ponnaluri (Florida Department of Transportation) is the State Connected Vehicles, Arterials and Managed Lanes Engineer at the Florida Department of Transportation. He holds a BSCE, MS and PhD in transportation, and is a registered P.E., PTOE and PMP. He has over two decades of experience in Traffic Engineering and Operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems, TSM&O, Connected and Automated Vehicles, Wrong-Way Driving mitigation, and projects and contract management. He has authored a book titled on Connected and Automated Vehicles.
