Umar Zakir Abdul Hamid, Ph.D. has been working in the future mobility field since 2014 in different countries (Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Finland, Sweden). Umar completed his PhD in 2017. His diverse experience consists of scrum-based production-scale software development, certified automotive- software engineering management as well as in-depth expertise in vehicle engineering (Autonomous Vehicles (AV), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Advanced Control Theory). As Product Owner (Autonomous Vehicle Software) at Sensible 4 (Finland), Umar was one of the key figures in Sensible 4’s cross-functional production-scale Autonomous Vehicle Stack Development team. Since Sept. 2021 Umar works as Lead of Strategic Planning at CEVT in Sweden. Umar is one of the recipients for the Finnish Engineering Award 2020 for his contributions to the development of all-weather autonomous driving solutions with the said firm. He is an aspiring automotive thought leader and often invited as a guest and keynote speaker to industrial and technical events. With more than 40 scientific publications as author and editor under his belt, Umar actively participates in global automotive standardization efforts where he is a Secretary for Society Automotive Engineers (SAE) Cooperative Driving Automation Committee. He is also the member of several technical committees such as IEEE Computer Society Functional Safety Standards Committee. Umar is the Editor of automotive journals such as SAE JCAV, IJVAS, SAE Technical Papers, IJVD (Guest Editor), Electronics (Guest Editor) as well as have authored and edited books in the automotive and ITS fields. He co-organized workshops and sessions at flagships IEEE IV and ITSC, as well as has reviewed for prestigious automotive conferences and journals since 2016.
