Short Description

ITSS Germany Chapter word mark.

The IEEE German ITSS Chapter was established in April 2019 to become the meeting place of choice for the intelligent transportation systems community in Germany. The objectives of the IEEE ITSS German Chapter are to encourage researchers to cooperate, to increase contributions in the area of intelligent transportation systems and to disseminate latest ITS innovations in Germany.

The objectives of the IEEE ITSS German Chapter are:

– Increasing contributions in the area of intelligent transportation systems

– Disseminating latest ITS innovations in Germany

These objectives can be achieved through various activities including seminars, lectures, workshops, conferences, and other events. You are welcome to attend any of our meetings, even if you are not a current IEEE member.

Vice-Chair: Lars Ullrich
Treasurer: Philipp Sieberg

Chapter Activities

  • Regular ExCom meetings (at least once a month)
  • Newsletter (twice a year)
  • Distinguished lecture series talks (one per quarter)
  • Collaboration with Germany Young Professionals
  • Elections according to IEEE standards
  • PhD Award every two years
  • Young Research Award (YRA) every two years (alternating with PhD Award): This award is aimed at master level students to promote young talents and raise awareness of the ITS Society in Germany.

Milestones

  • The major event organised by the Germany Chapter this year is the IEEE ITSS R8 Chapters Meeting, which will take place at the end of November in Berlin. Applications are still open – we expect roughly 50 participants, 35 of which will be granted a travel fellowship.
  • ExCom meetings have been more frequent than usual due to this event organisation.
  • The regular newsletter is an ongoing project in its third year now. The second issue this year will be send in October.
Elections for the positions of Treasurer, Student Activities Chair and Social Media Chair are open until 1st November. New officers will start their 2-year term at the beginning of January.
  • The distinguished lecture series is shortened to two talks this year as the focus lay on the R8 meeting, but should be up to normal in the next year.
  • Apart from the established PhD Award, we are introducing a new Young Research Award this year to encourage master students to join the society. We have received a number of applications which are currently assessed and the two best contributions will receive a small cash prize, a certificate and a travel grant to join the ITSS R8 Chapters Meeting in Berlin in late November, where we will have a little award ceremony.
