Overview
The Intelligent Transportation System Society (ITSS) is an organisation unit of IEEE. It was established in 2005 and is focused on advancing the theoretical, experimental, and practical aspects of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies as applied to intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
Mission
The mission of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS) is to advance the theoretical, experimental, and operational aspects of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies as applied to intelligent transportation systems (ITS), defined as those systems utilising synergistic technologies and systems engineering concepts to develop and improve transportation systems of all kinds.
History
ITSS published its first newsletter as a Society in March of the same year (Volume 7, Issue 1 of the Newsletter). Before this, the Intelligent Transportation Systems Society was officially founded as the Intelligent Transportation Systems Council on January 1, 1999, following a vote by the IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB) to transform the TAB Ad Hoc Committee on ITS into a permanent entity.
