ITSS chapter is a newly established student chapter at the University of Florida. This chapter gives the students the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), autonomous and connected vehicles (CAVs), and emerging technologies in general.

Chapter Activities

  • The UF IEEE-ITSS Chapter plans to conduct periodic workshops and attend conferences to keep the transportation engineering students up to date with the Intelligent Transportation Systems research.
  • The Chapter is registered with the Student Government (SG) at the University of Florida and was able to secure funding for student activities.
  • Participate in events to broaden the knowledge of CAVs and emerging transportation technologies.
  • Connected students to research at national and international level through participation at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Conference.

Milestones

  1. The Chapter conducted a General Body Meeting to introduce IEEE-ITSS organization to the graduate students in transportation engineering, including four incoming students.
  2. The Chapter was able to provide funding for six students to participate and present their research at the TRB Conference.
  3. The Chapter was able to provide funding for six students to participate and present their research at the Florida Automated Vehicles Summit. The FAV Summit assembles industry leaders from around the world to address technologies, operations, and policy issues.
  4. The Chapter organized a seminar on “Human Evacuation plans for passenger ships under uncertainty”.
  5. The Chapter organized a field visit to the Brightline Passenger Rail facility at Orlando.
  6. The Chapter organized two social events to increase student collegiality.
