Nanning Zheng graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Xian Jiaotong University (XJTU), Xian, China in 1975, and received the M.S. degree in Information and Control Engineering from XJTU in 1981 and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Keio University, Yokohama, Japan in 1985. He is currently a professor in the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, XJTU. He is a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering (1999) and IEEE Fellow (2005). Dr. Zheng received several awards, including the Second Prize for National Technological Invention Award, the Second Prize for National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Prize for Science and Technology Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation. Dr. Zheng is the Chinese representative on the Governing Board of the International Association for Pattern Recognition, a member of the Experts Advisory Committee of the Microsoft Asia Research Institute, the President of Chinese Association of Automation from 2013, the leader of Steering Group of Experts of one Major Research Plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the director of the Advisory Committee of Experts of one National Science and Technology Major Project from 2011. He was the President of XJTU from 2003 to 2014.
