Bio:
Dr. Ali Hajbabaie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at NC State University. He is primarily associated with the Transportation Systems and Computing and Systems groups within the Department. He is also an assistant professor in the Operations Research Program at NC State University. Dr. Hajbabaie was an Assistant Professor at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Washington State University for five years, where he was the founding director of Smart City Lab for Transportation Systems. He received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in 2003 and 2006, respectively. He also received an M.Sc. degree in industrial engineering and a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Dr. Hajbabaie is interested in real-time optimization of large-scale traffic systems. His research is focused on traffic operations and control in the presence of connected human-driven and self-driving cars. Dr. Hajbabaie has served as the Secretary of the Work Zone Traffic Control standing committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine since 2014 and as the Chair of the Asset Management Subcommittee of the Traffic Signal Systems Committee of the TRB.
